Lightfield Home Defender High Velocity Rubber Star Slug ammunition is designed for close-range defensive applications where a less lethal option is desired. Each 12 Gauge shell launches a large, flexible 75-grain rubber Star projectile at a listed muzzle velocity of 850 feet / second. The 1.25-inch projectile collapses on impact and spreads its available energy over a broad surface area. Lightfield states that the load loses most of its effective energy beyond 15 yards. This ammunition can cause serious injury or death and must be handled and used with the same care as other firearm ammunition.
